Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can speed the healing of many types of orthopedic and soft tissue injuries and conditions. It has been used in human medicine to treat a variety of issues ranging from soft tissue trauma such as tennis elbow or plantar fascitis (heel pain) to non healing fractures, to burns and ulcers. Research is ongoing to further explain why this technique to release the body’s own growth factors seems to improve healing of a myriad of problems.

Shockwave is usually performed under sedation as it is an uncomfortable procedure. It may require repeated treatments. Common equine uses are to treat splints, tendon injuries, and pastern arthritis to name a few.
